The  Academic Media Department

As part of Al-Quds University, the media department offers BA degrees in four key subjects, print journalism, television, cinema, and visual communications, as well as a general degree in media.

The conflict has created an exaggerated focus on itself and on related issues and tends to draw everyone in the area into small mentally sealed areas in parallel with the physical boundaries.

This has a negative effect on all aspects of communication, and is particularly damaging for Palestinians trying to communicate with the rest of the world.

At present therefore Palestinian society needs more training in order to look at itself (and also the conflict) from a global perspective and to learn how to communicate better with the exterior. the media department provides this broader perspective and training, by encouraging deep awareness of perceptions and communication tools.

The media department is an independent department under the auspices of the IMM,but for the first two

years all media students are based in the Abu Dis Campus where they study all the general university requirements, such as critical thinking and cultural studies, and where they can benefit from the rich student life on campus.

Thereafter, for the following two years, if they would like to focus more in one or two specific subjects with a view to a career in journalism, they move to Ramallah to the IMM and its sister building nearby. there they are given intensive practical training in television production, graphic design, cinema production, interviewing etc., with opportunities for the most talented to work as interns with the AQTV and to become involved professionally. The emphasis is on a balance between the practical and the theoretical so that the graduates of our media programme will help to raise the level of communications throughout Palestinian society.
