Palestinian
society has suffered through the prolonged
occupation and the continuous failure of the
peace process to deliver peace. there is a
disintegration and apathy that have set in
and that have started to eat away at the
traditional values that have hitherto held
Palestinian society together. The levels of
trauma caused by the recent years of
increased violence both inside and outside
Palestinian society, and the constant lack
of human security have added to the already
prevalent tendency to victimhood among
Palestinians.

The children
are inevitably those who take the brunt of
all these negative elements. The IMM
therefore is counteracting this by, in
addition to the quality children’s Community
Services programming on the AQTV,
establishing a children’s cinema, and an
outreach programme to take quality films to
children throughout the West Bank and Gaza.
This reaches children of all ages, from
kindergartens to teenagers, and gives
positive, value-based messages via summer
camps and schools. Children learn through
this programme that they can take
responsibility for who they are and who they
become and need no longer see themselves as
victims but as agents. |

In
order to “create the change
we want to become”, the IMM
also focuses on capacity
building for all professionals
in the field of media. In
partnership with
international cultural and
diplomatic institutions,
such as the Goethe Institute,
the French Consulate and the
BBC, we organize training
workshops in such
specialized areas as lighting
and sound, as well as in
scriptwriting, production, news
writing etc. We believe that
it is only by increasing
our capacity that we will be
able to create effective
independent journalists.
As
we are interested to increase
our own capacity we also
use this as a way to
increase our cooperation with
other media organizations
by inviting them to share in
our opportunities and to
learn with us.
