Director's Message

Al-Quds University’s Institute of Modern Media, which is located both in al-Bireh/Ramallah and in the heart of Jerusalem’s Old City, has the mission of inspiring professionalism, improving communication skills and promoting well-being throughout Palestine and beyond.  We are a dynamic and thriving institution and we take pride in combining the professional with the academic.  We educate 440 undergraduate media students through our BA program where they gain both practical and theoretical experience.  We bring daily issues of life in occupied Jerusalem into homes around the world via radio, print and video reports from our multi-media community news agency honaalquds.net. Our educational television station (AQTV) is the only politically independent TV station in Palestine.  It works closely with civil society as well as under the umbrella of Al-Quds University to produce a wide variety of programs.  It is dedicated to strengthening the educational, cultural and environmental well-being of all Palestinians, including the most neglected by putting special emphasis on children, youth, women and those with disabilities.  The IMM has partnerships with a number of international institutes and universities.  We are striving to impove the lives of all Palestinians through media.

Vision

In three years’ time, we envision the IMM as a fully integrated up -to-date media hub/center for all media professionals with all kinds of media, combining the media BA and MA department with the current outlets (Q Media) to provide an inspiring center for learning and creating and doing, which graduates professional ethical journalists and film makers, and produces quality educational programs that promote well-being and human rights not only throughout the entire Palestinian community but that also reach beyond to promote these also as much as possible in the Arabic speaking world. As one of the leading media institutions in Palestine, we will be well-funded and well-known and completely up to date academically, and pioneering the way professionally, providing a beacon of hope for the youth of Palestine.

Who we are

We are a pioneering group of highly committed professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds, mostly local, some international, women and men, with good gender balance among the positions of authority. What we have in common is our commitment to serving the Palestinian community and to the development of independent quality educational media and our vision of a happier, better-educated and more open-minded society. Our work is based on the values of openness, pluralism, nonviolence, independence and professionalism.

What we do: We address the urgent needs for improvements in education, in journalism and communications skills, and in understanding of Palestinian society, at the same time as promoting values and well-being in Palestinian society.

We do this via our educational media outlet and our degree giving.
