The aim of this action is to produce
six-short drama films exploring the themes
of communication, non-violence, conflict
transformation, mediation, negotiation,
conflict in media and media in conflict and
to produce this material in a participatory
and unconventional way, allowing the
production process to become part of the
benefiting part of the action. The films
will be aired on the
Ma'an Network and made available to
schools, universities, NGOs and other
educational institutions. The content will
be designed to be either transmitted live
via television, or to be viewed in
classrooms, workshops or conferences
followed by discussion rounds. In
preparation for the production of the
program, four three-day workshops were
conducted for teenagers, students,
teachers/trainers and media experts
respectively. The workshops served to make
the interest groups familiar to conflict
transformation methods and enabled them to
contribute to the content, style and format
of the media products. This is to make sure
that the content is tailored to fit the
needs and specificities of the
beneficiaries. The scripts for the six films
were written under the guidance of a
professional script writer and some of the
participants of the workshops. At the end of
the program a closing conference for all
participants and media will be conducted
where part of the films will be aired. All
films will be shown via the
Maan Network.
The films will also be distributed to 100
schools and 8 universities in the West Bank
together with a brochure explaining the use
of the program. In addition, the films will
be handed out to any interested person or
institution. |

Promoting Palestinian Women’s
Rights through Modern Media,
in partnership with WCLAC and
funded by the EC, (Jan07 -
Mar08): |
|
This
project on media and women
carried out jointly by WCLAC and
Al Quds Educational TV primarily
aimed at developing the capacity
of media professionals in the
audiovisual media in terms of
increasing their sensitivity to
gender and human rights. The
project also included the
production of TV talk shows
addressing the personal status
law to identify gaps and
prejudice against women in this
law. WCLAC's role was to carry
out training courses for 60
media professionals on gender
concepts, the Convention on the
Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)
and the personal status law. Out
of these trainees, twenty
persons were to be selected in
order to receive advanced
training under the supervision
of Al Quds Educational TV and by
support from WCLAC. Through this
process, focused TV talk shows
were developed targeting
specific provisions of the law.
In this stage, WCLAC's role was
to provide consultation in
developing the content and
components of the talk shows,
verify legal aspects and support
the hosts of the shows. A total
of 12 talk shows were prepared
and aired live on local TV
stations. WCLAC was also
assigned with the task of
assessing the impact of the talk
shows on the targeted audience
by conducting 4 workshops at the
district level for this purpose.
